Diebold
and the National Federation of the Blind
Diebold has
partnered with the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) to develop a
cost-effective voice-guided ATM that can be readily accessed by the blind
without assistance from sighted persons. The two organizations are working
together to develop an easy way to upgrade and simplify Diebold's existing
voice-guidance capabilities.
The
NFB is assisting Diebold with developing cost-effective voice-guidance
solutions across its full range of automated teller machines (ATMs) that are
inclusive for everyone, and complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Diebold’s
ATMs are designed with a voice-guidance feature that uses advanced technology
to empower members of the blind and visually impaired community.
Diebold's
voice-guided ATMs work with a standard headset - owned by many people within
the visually impaired and blind community - that can be plugged into the ATM
so non-visual users can receive voice instructions to allow them to easily
access their accounts in complete privacy.
This
technology offers blind customers total access to the same banking functions
available to sighted customers, including cash withdrawals, balance inquiries
and account transfers.
The
NFB promotes adaptive technologies which allow the blind to live and work
independently in today's technology-driven world. Diebold is using
invaluable input from the NFB and the blind community to develop and improve
upon our voice-guidance technology.
